Irish provincial newspapers websites..... The Munster Express is a standard setter
The website of the Munster Express (pictured above) is one of the clean, clearest and easiest to navigate designs we've seen for a regional Irish newspaper. And like a grown number of UK counterparts, it's built in the free Wordpress content management system.
t compares extremely well to some of the local paper sites we know - from cluttered old sites or newer sites which somehow think small text and no paragraphs breaks are ok.
Unlike any other Irish newspaper we're seen The Munster Express has implemented the transfer of much used photo pages in regionals to the internet. The paper has their most recent pictures shown in a collage on their sidebar with which links to the individual photo pages (which in turn offers a link to the paper's flickr account), and it has photo galleries built into the site.
Munster-Express.ie easily surpasses the now-dated Examiner.ie website. It's of national newspaper standard.
Again, unlike many or even most locals which publish the bare minimal online, the Express appear to publish most content which appears in print. It even has an online classified ad ordering system.
One downside is that, while it is built on what is often seen as just blogging software, it does not have any blog. Nor does it allow comment on articles, not even opinion section.
The Munster Express, a twice weekly newspaper based Waterford City and covering much further, say it was the online since May 1996 and claims to receive 197, 000 visits each month.
- Anybody know of other examples of good newspapers or other local media sites around the country? Any more built on Wordpress?
